Strengthening NATO-Georgia Cooperation

The Georgian Minister of Defence, Mr. Levan Izoria, visits NATO’s Allied Command Transformation.

Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Transformation, Admiral Manfred Nielson, welcomed the Minister of Defence of Georgia, Mr. Levan Izoria, on May 17th, 2019.

Minister Izoria’s visit to Allied Command Transformation was twofold: First, he discussed NATO’s support to Georgia’s defence transformation. Second, he received an updated Allied Command Transformation perspective on current challenges and the new responsibilities after the NATO Command Structure Adaptation.

Allied Command Transformation, as the Command scheduling the NATO-Georgia series of exercises, has a direct involvement in the design and the preparation of those exercises as well as the collection of lessons learned and feedback from other organizers, participants and mentors. The second NATO-Georgia exercise was conducted recently in Tbilisi, Georgia, between March 18th and March 29th 2019. Minister Izoria and Admiral Nielson also discussed the potential to expand the scope of NATO-Georgia collaboration which has proven to be a significant milestone in strengthening NATO-Georgia military-political cooperation.

Finally, the leaders discussion addressed the status of Georgia’s defence reforms, exercises and training, as well as the prospects to enhance military cooperation.
