General André Lanata, Supreme Allied Commander Transformation, visited Italy May 15th to 17th, welcomed by the Italian Minister of Defence.
His first engagement has been the NATO Modelling & Simulation Centre of Excellence, where General Lanata experienced first-hand demonstrations of models, simulations and tools used to support operations and experimentation for NATO and its nations.
The demonstrations ranged from tactical-level, featuring virtual reality and cyber-related systems, to strategic-level, with systems designed to support both planning and concept and capability development. These tools highlighted the wide range of military, industry and academic partnerships the Centre of Excellence leverages in its work.
The visit also featured discussions on the Centre’s effort to professionalize the field of modelling and simulation across NATO to ensure these technologies are used efficiently and effectively.
Following the centre of Excellence, Supreme Allied Commander Transformation paid a visit to the NATO Defence College, welcomed by Lieutenant General Chris Whitecross and Generals, Flag Officers and Ambassadors currently attending a course on NATO’s 360° Approach to Security. In his intervention, General Lanata explained the role of Allied Command Transformation in improving the Alliance’s capabilities.
General Lanata’s visit concluded with a tour of the Carabinieri Headquarters and an office call with General Vecciarelli, Italian Chief of Defence, to discuss military innovation and cooperative resilience, among other topics.
