NORFOLK, Virginia. Beginning October 31st, the NATO Allied Command Transformation Annual Gender Advisor Conference will be held at the Headquarters, Supreme Allied Commander Transformation. The theme for this year is “Gender Perspective and NATO’s Warfare Development Activities” and attendees will encompass general staff, subject-matter experts and leadership from across the Allied Command Transformation, NATO’s education and training partners, and representatives from the NATO Gender Advisory structure and community of interest.
NATO’s 2022 Strategic Concept and the discussions at the Vilnius Summit reaffirmed the Alliance’s commitment to integrating gender perspective into all aspects of NATO’s work. Parts of this conference will continue the ongoing dialogue and activities discussed in previous events such as the 2022 ACT Gender Advisor annual conference, the 47th NATO Committee on Gender Perspectives Annual Conference and those related to education and training in the field of the Gender in Military Operations NATO discipline.
The NATO Allied Command Transformation Annual Gender Advisor Conference will serve as a platform for sharing information, raising awareness, following-up on actions and examining how NATO can further operationalize the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda in the development of warfare. With anticipated updates to NATO’s Women, Peace, and Security Policy following the summit and updates to guidance on gender perspective, the conference presents an opportunity to discuss these priority areas. Additionally, it will explore how gender perspective in military operations and activities interconnect with other key areas of work at Allied Command Transformation, such as cognitive warfare, AzuritOwl innovation project, Multi-Domain Operations in Urban Environment, wargaming, Lessons Identified from the war in Ukraine, and the Warfare Development Agenda.
The goals of the conference include: enhancing the collective understanding and commitment of senior leadership at Allied Command Transformation, raising awareness and engagement among Allied Command Transformation staff, strengthening the NATO Gender Advisor community and assessing the impact of gender perspective on selected Allied Command Transformation priority areas of work for the next year.
