NATO to Conduct 5G Experimentation in Latvia

October 4, 2024

NATO Allied Command Transformation is gearing up to explore the potential of emerging technologies, particularly 5G, to enhance military operations. The Digital Backbone Experimentation 2024 (DiBaX) event, scheduled for later this month in Latvia, will serve as a platform to test and evaluate various technologies for military use.

Key Focus Areas of DiBaX:

  • 5G Technology: The event will delve into the potential applications of 5G technology for military operations, including drones.
  • Sustainability: Given the increasing power requirements of 5G systems, sustainability will be a key focus, aligning with NATO’s Operational Energy Concept.
  • Collaboration: The event will foster collaboration between NATO nations and industry to identify and develop innovative technological solutions.

Building upon the achievements of 2023 and with continued exceptional support from the Latvian Ministry of Defence and the Latvian Mobile Telephone company, we’re confident that this year’s event will yield valuable insights and actionable recommendations. The enthusiasm of the participants, who are eager to contribute to NATO’s technological edge through hands-on experimentation, is truly inspiring. We look forward to the positive impact DiBax will have on our future endeavors.
