Allied Command Transformation leveraged the world’s largest training and simulation event, Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) 2024, to shape the future of NATO’s training, innovation, and warfighting.
I/ITSEC 2024
Allied Command Transformation and the NATO Science and Technology Organization’s Modeling and Simulation Group provided a look at NATO’s modernization and digital transformation through distributed learning as well as modelling and simulation tools.
Did You Know? Allied Command Transformation trains over 10,000 personnel every year through 800 unique courses.
Key Projects
Integrating Artificial Intelligence into Wargames
Exploring how to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into NATO’s strategic wargaming. Initial results suggest that AI could be a promising tool for enhancing the effectiveness of military decision-making supported by wargaming. AI is intended to enhance human capabilities, not replace human decision-makers, promoting a collaborative and improved approach to strategic planning.
Learning Technologies
Allied Command Transformation presented its pioneering Learning Technology initiatives through demonstrations of innovative distributed learning solutions. These advancements are empowering NATO forces to navigate the complexities of Multi-Domain Operations, ensuring they are equipped for emerging challenges.
Digital Twin Integration
Allied Command Transformation unveiled a groundbreaking one-hour live demonstration of Digital Twin integration within a simulation environment. Digital twin technology is a way to create virtual replicas of physical objects, systems, or processes that can be used to simulate their behavior and monitor their performance. They are created using real-time data from sensors on the physical object, along with simulation and modeling techniques. This proof of concept highlighted the innovative application of Digital Twins to enhance NATO’s next-generation Modelling & Simulation capabilities.
Next Generation Modelling & Simulation
Allied Command Transformation hosted an industry briefing to outline the vision for Modeling and Simulation procurement activities. The briefing emphasized NATO’s approach to fostering collaborative partnerships with industry to deliver operational advantage.
Simulation Support to Cognitive Warfare
Staff from Allied Command Transformation delivered a live demonstration of the Simulation Support to Cognitive Concept Development project. The simulation replicated critical elements of Cognitive Warfare, empowering NATO to bolster its defences and resilience against such threats. By simulating cognitive warfare scenarios, the initiative provided insights into potential vulnerabilities and strategies to counter adversarial cognitive attacks.
To stay ahead in the complex and competitive operational environment of today and tomorrow, we must develop the tools and mindset to shift from static, event-driven training to competitive, free-play events in a persistent, advanced modeling and simulation environment.
