IGNITE: Advancing Innovation in NATO’s Warfare Development Agenda

May 2, 2024

Following the successful launch of the INNOVATION CONTINUUM 2024 series at the SPARK event in La Spezia, Italy, NATO Allied Command Transformation announces the next phase of this strategic initiative. The upcoming event, called IGNITE, will take place in Pensacola, Florida from May 14th to 17th.

The INNOVATION CONTINUUM 2024 is a strategic initiative by Allied Command Transformation to drive tangible outcomes through the experimentation and demonstration of cutting-edge Science and Technology solutions. This series of events presents a unique opportunity for NATO enterprise bodies and nations to collaborate with Allied Command Transformation, enhancing the value of Science and Technology products in Warfare Development through joint efforts.

IGNITE is the next step forward in the INNOVATION CONTINUUM 2024, where the momentum from the SPARK event earlier this year will be harnessed to drive further progress in Multi-Domain Operations and Digital Transformation within NATO. This event aims to build upon the outcomes of SPARK by delving deeper into identified hypotheses, proposals, and operational scenarios.

The IGNITE event will bring together a diverse range of participants, including military professionals, industry leaders, academia representatives, and subject matter experts in the fields of Emerging and Disruptive Technology. These professionals will collaboratively focus on refining innovative solutions and advancing NATO’s Warfare Development Agenda.

As part of the larger series, IGNITE marks a crucial step towards achieving concrete results through experimentation and demonstration of cutting-edge Science and Technology solutions. The event will facilitate deep discussions and practical exercises aimed at operationalizing concepts developed during SPARK.

The INNOVATION CONTINUUM 2024 provides an orchestration mechanism to NATO internal and external stakeholders via four milestone events linked to Scope, Blueprint, Validate, and Evaluate phases and are named respectively: SPARK, IGNITE, GLOW and SHINE. It offers not only a platform for experimentation, but also concentrates innovation efforts into a collaborative way forward by supporting and contributing to each other’s work, as well as aligning goals and efforts. This will make the Innovation approach more agile, output-oriented, and lead to a direct, practical impact.

This initiative encourages NATO bodies and member nations to joint Allied Command Transformation’s efforts to increase the collaboration and value of Science and Technology products in support of Warfare Development across the Alliance.

As the INNOVATION CONTINUUM 2024 unfolds, IGNITE serves as a critical catalyst for translating innovative ideas into concrete solutions. By bringing together diverse stakeholders and fostering a culture of experimentation, NATO is demonstrably committed to harnessing the power of technology to safeguard its collective security.
