LJUBLJANA, Slovenia – Leadership from NATO and Headquarters, Supreme Allied Commander Transformation attended the NATO Military Committee Conference in Ljubljana, Slovenia from September 13 to 15, 2019, hosted by Chief of the Slovenian General Staff Major General Alenka Ermenc.

The 29 Allied Chiefs focused their attention on NATO’s operations, missions and activities, the Deterrence and Defence of the Euro-Atlantic Area, NATO’s Warfighting Concept and NATO’s Military Instrument of Power.

As the Alliance is confronted with challenges from multiple directions, the Chiefs of Defence noted the necessity of ensuring the readiness and responsiveness of NATO’s forces, and the need to continue to have credible and effective deterrence and defence.

Throughout their discussions, the Chiefs of Defence stressed the continued commitment to NATO’s three core tasks – collective defence, crisis management and cooperative security.

They also noted that the Deterrence and Defence of the Euro-Atlantic area concept provides a clear link between our NATO Military Strategy and underlying plans.
General Lanata conducted discussions about NATO’s warfighting capstone concept, “NWCC is a military concept, based on a 20-year horizon warfighting perspective, shaping the Warfare Development trajectory and informing the integrated, timely, effective and efficient development of the Alliance’s Military Instrument of Power, in support of its current and future employment.”

Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach, Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, declared, “We agreed to continue to develop these concepts further to guide future military requirements. On the Warfighting concept, we agreed the concept and we will do further work on space, innovation, and emerging and disruptive technology.”
