DETAILS OF PROJECT:
The Future Force Study (FFS) is a cross directorate internal HQ SACT study that, over the next 15 months will draw on Force Development techniques to determine whether evidence based insights to potentially inform transformation, capability strategies and the NATO Defence Planning Process. The initial study is a proof of concept aimed at enhancing the Force Development eco system of the Alliance and intends to compliment the NATO Defence Planning Process (NDPP), running out of the NDPP cycle. The study will be limited, prioritizing tangible outcomes within the 2025 period to determine whether value can be realized. If proven successful, I will make recommendations to SACT on a sustained approach to continuous work to determine the characteristics of the Alliance’s Future Force.
An intern would be expected to work alongside existing Branch members in support of the study.
- Essential Core Duties:
- Conduct research and analysis to support FFS projects and programs; in particular in, but not limited to, the following work strands:
- Developing key assumptions for the Study Scenarios are defined including potential adversaries and their “Future History” in a Future Operating Environment.
- Support the Project lead in development of wargames, modelling and simulation; to include the development of requirements for analytical frameworks.
- Assist in the organization of FFS-related workshops, seminars, conferences, or other events;
- Subject area research (e.g. short analysis, assessments, information or background papers on Future Force Study-related issues and documents).
- Conduct research and analysis to support FFS projects and programs; in particular in, but not limited to, the following work strands:
- Additional Duties as Required:
- Report/ document editing; recording and report writing for Future Force Study events.
- Assist in knowledge management and the organization of information repositories, such as website development and maintenance, as required.
EXPECTED DELIVERABLE(S):
- Reports, point papers, PowerPoint presentations, and management products, as directed.

TYPE OF BACKGROUND/EDUCATION PREFERRED:

- Essential:
- Current or recently graduated Post Graduate student in mathematics, business, management, communication, social science, psychology, international relations, defence studies or similar disciplines
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word,
- Language proficiency: English, fluent (speaking and written)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
