NORFOLK, VA – Supreme Allied Commander Transformation General Lavigne hosted Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy, Ambassador Bettina Cadenbach, and a delegation of NATO Security Policy Directors on March 23nd, 2023, with working sessions focused on Multi-Domain Operations and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
A delegation of NATO Security Policy Directors visited Norfolk, Virginia, NATO’s home in North America, for discussions on digital transformation, lessons learned from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and Multi-Domain Operations. The delegation of Security Policy Directors included leaders from all NATO member nations, as well as representatives from the European Union.
Ambassador Cadenbach is the Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy, overseeing Alliance wide policy development to enable adaptive, interoperable, and seamless synchronization for the Alliance’s Military Instrument of Power. Accompanying her is a delegation of Security Policy Directors, which includes representation from all 30 NATO member states, invitees Finland and Sweden, as well as the European Union. The Security Policy Directors work together to shape an Alliance-wide interoperable security policy framework.
The International Staff, Political Affairs and Security Policy Division at NATO Headquarters organizes this bi-annual event, bringing together directors from across the Alliance; this is the first time NATO’s Allied Command Transformation hosted the Security Policy Directors’ Meeting. The Alliance is preparing for the successful accession of Finland and Sweden, as well as ongoing Digital Transformation and Multi-Domain Operations – Allied Command Transformation leads modernization and transformation across the Alliance, prioritizing Multi-Domain Operations, Deterrence and Defence, and Strategic Foresight.
