Improving Fuel Supply for NATO Allies

October 14, 2024

The NATO Support and Procurement Agency and Allied Command Transformation recently held their first Fuel Supply Chain and Fuel Industry Day at the Agency’s headquarters in Luxembourg.

The event brought together distinguished guests from NATO Headquarters, Allied Command Operations, US Defense Logistics Agency, representatives from NATO nations and 32 companies from across the fuel sector.

The Fuel Industry Day was the first of its kind. The gathering enabled attendees to obtain information on fuel business opportunities within NATO, as well as to identify commercial service providers to adapt existing NATO Support and Procurement Agency fuel contracts to the new challenges and to address capability shortfalls. The representatives from industry had the opportunity to present their solutions.

As fuel services and related capabilities are key enablers to deploy, reinforce and sustain large multinational forces, the ACT is developing a Fuel Supply Chain Capability Program Plan, common funded by NATO, to improve fuel supply for NATO troops deployed to protect NATO territory. In parallel, NATO Support and Procurement Agency is developing new commercial fuel capabilities in support of its customers and NATO Allies.

The NATO Support and Procurement Agency has a number of specific contracts across operational domains to serve Allies’ national requirements: Global Access Services for air fuel, Global Fuel Services for air and land fuels, and Maritime Logistics Support Partnership for maritime fuels.

At the Fuel Supply Chain and Fuel Industry Day, the NATO Support and Procurement Agency’s procurement and fuel specialists also briefed industry representatives on how they can do business with the Agency, specifically in the context of tactical fuel handling equipment; sustainable aviation fuel and fuel logistics abilities.
