Denmark was a founding member of the Alliance, joining NATO in 1949, and just announced boosted defence investment plans for the next 10 years, as well as increased military aid to Ukraine. Additionally, Denmark recently voted to join the European Union’s defence policy, scrapping its original defence opt-out, as the priority for collective defence increases. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has fundamentally shifted NATO and Europe’s defence posture: “This is the right decision for our future. We are facing an era with even more uncertainty than what we see now, and we need to stand together,” shared Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.

Allied Command Transformation is NATO’s Warfare Development Command, responsible for Alliance-wide capabilities development and defence planning. Key priorities for Allied Command Transformation are multi-domain operations, adaptation to deterrence and defence, and better understanding, all in support of the Military Instrument of Power. To ensure NATO’s edge for the challenges of today and tomorrow, Allied Command Transformation works with industry, academia, and national partners to address emerging threats and changing global security requirements.
