NORFOLK, Virginia. – NATO Allied Command Transformation will host the 2023 Alliance Warfare Development Conference next month. This annual meeting of Flag and General Officers, as well as Senior Civilian decision makers from NATO Nations, is designed to foster interaction and collaboration with NATO’s Allied Command Transformation and other senior NATO leaders involved with warfare development.
The Conference brings together key representatives from NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, as well as representatives from most of the 31 NATO nations, and various Partner nations to exchange ideas and information on some of the main challenges facing NATO.
This year’s theme, “Shaping Today to Succeed Tomorrow”,focuses on four main topics of discussion: to inform new ideas and concepts, to explore the Future Operating Environment, Cross-Domain Command, to exchange information regarding the challenges and changes associated with the NATO Defence Planning Process, and to look at shared approaches to persistent experimentation.
Allied Command Transformation – NATO’s strategic warfare development Command – plays a central role in shaping the future of NATO’s military capabilities. Its mission is to contribute to preserving peace, security, and the territorial integrity of Alliance member states by leading the warfare development of military structures, forces, capabilities, and doctrines. This strategic command ensures that NATO is well-prepared to address evolving security challenges in the ever-changing global landscape.
Allied Command Transformation harnesses innovative principles to enhance NATO’s ability to respond to threats with a speedy and agile military instrument of power. The Command ensures that NATO’s warfighting capabilities remain relevant by providing an indispensable understanding of current and future security challenges. These assessments enable NATO Allied Command Transformation to contribute to the development of NATO doctrine, concepts and interoperability standards.
The Alliance Warfare Development Conference is organized to bring together senior leadership from NATO nations who are responsible for warfare development. This enables the promotion of NATO’s warfare development activities, helps to align national warfare development efforts, and builds communities of interest which make NATO an alliance that innovates in order to secure our collective futures.
