DETAILS OF PROJECT:

The Joint Analysis and Lessons Learned Centre (JALLC) is NATO’s Centre dedicated to support Alliance wide implementation and sustainment of NATO’s Lessons Learned (LL) Policy through monitoring and supervising the NATO LL Process within the NATO Command Structure and other NATO bodies. The JALLC is the lead agent for the collection and sharing of lessons, accomplished through Active Content Management (ACM) of the NATO Lessons Learned Portal (NLLP), joint analysis as an integral part of the LL Process and outreach to Allies and Partners. The JALLC supports the Warfare Development and Warfighting, improving NATOs ability to operate and adapt, through training, advising and assessment activities enabling the establishment and sustainment of effective LL capabilities across NATO. Under the supervision of the JALLC LL Management Division (LLMD) Deputy Head, the intern will support the LLMD in the execution of a variety of tasks, including: support the conduct of NLLP ACM and other analysis tasks; support the organization and conduct of LL events; and support the development of LL and analysis training material.

Core duties:

  1. Support the conduct of NLLP ACM and the development analysis products, which may involve the use of various quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques.
  2. Support the organization and conduct of LL events, such as the Spring/Fall LL Week and the NATO LL Conference.
  3. Support the development/update of LL and analysis training material used at JALLC’s LL training courses and engagements.
  4. Support the NLLP managers in the execution of their tasks, interacting and networking with the NATO LL Community.

Additional duties:

  1. Support the LLMD SORA with quality assurance tasks, such as checking the factual accuracy of statements and editorial amendments.
  2. Support the JALLC’s innovation projects through, for example, conducting organizational, research, and/or analysis tasks.

EXPECTED DELIVERABLE(S):

The nature of the deliverables will vary depending on the LLMD activities supported. It is expected that the intern’s contributions are timely, accurate, well-written, and compliant with JALLC’s quality standards.

TYPE OF BACKGROUND/EDUCATION PREFERRED:

Essential:

  1. Current or recently graduated student in numerical, research, or analysis-related subjects.
  2. Experience of conducting research/analysis tasks.
  3. Excellent written and oral English language skills.
  4. Good organizational, time management, and communication skills.
  5. Interest in defence and security issues.
  6. Proficient in the use of Microsoft PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Desirable:

  1. Experience of developing products as part of a team.
  2. Experience of data analysis and visualization.
  3. Experience of developing presentations and/or training material.
  4. Proficient in the use of the MAXQDA software application.
