DETAILS OF PROJECT:

Strategic Alternatives (SALT) conducts alternative and disruptive studies to enable NATO’s preparation for any threat in the next 4 decades. It allows NATO to identify future trends, understand the future security environment and identify options to conduct long term strategic shaping. As part of the NATO Warfare Capstone Concept, SALT was task to deliver the Layered Resilience (LR) Warfare Development Imperative (WDI) and the Long Term Military Strategic Shaping (LTMSS) Line of Delivery (LoD) under the Cognitive Superiority WDI.

EXPECTED DELIVERABLE(S):

An intern can expect to work alongside existing Section members to support the development of SALT outputs as detailed below:

  • Support research and analysis in relation to LTMSS studies e.g. Russia and China’s military strategic trajectories.
  • Co-ordinate with LTMSS representatives in Allied Command Operations (ACO), NATO HQ, NATO partner nations, academia and think Tanks to support the delivery of papers, briefings and other deliverables relating to LTMSS threat groups.
  • Assist with the delivery of LTMSS related war games, working groups, conferences and other such events.
  • Support the development of:
    • Layer Resilience Concept and assist, as required, with the Thematic Working Groups (TWG).
    • The Illustrative Military Resilience Risk Assessment (iNMRRA).
    • Day Zero Integration Critical Enabler.
  • Assist with the delivery of LR related war games, working groups, conferences and other such events.
  • Produce reports, point papers, PowerPoint presentations, and management products, as directed across all SALT outputs.

TYPE OF BACKGROUND/EDUCATION PREFERRED:

  1. Current or recently graduated master student in international studies/relations, military studies or studies related to Russia, China or terrorist groups.
  2. Experience of conducting research/analysis tasks.
  3. Excellent written and oral English language skills.
  4. Good organizational, time management, and communication skills.
  5. Interest in defence and security issues.
  6. Proficient in the use of Microsoft PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, and Excel.
