DIVISION: Capability Development / Requirements BRANCH/SECTION: Operational Analysis (OA)
DETAILS OF PROJECT:
The Operational Analysis (OA) Branch provides independent analysis on proposed solutions for meeting military requirements or shortfalls. They ensure that proper rationales, overall cohesion and rigorous justification are provided for proposed solutions, balancing the potential effectiveness of options against their cost and risk profiles. Additionally the branch applies analytical methods to structure problems, explore future concepts and evaluate potential solutions. The branch members are Operations Research professionals who specialize in applying structured analytical methods to provide evidence-based advice for better decision making.
An intern may be expected to work alongside an existing branch member on one of the following:
- Study design, data collection and analysis for Analysis of Alternatives projects
- Design and application of quantitative and qualitative analytical methods on Strategic Studies
- Assist in organization of the Annual NATO Operations Research and Analysis Conference
- Design of analysis plans for events (e.g. workshops, wargames)
- Subject area research
EXPECTED DELIVERABLE(S):
Deliverables will be tailored based on experience and skills of the selected intern as they relate to the current portfolio of OA work. The intern can expect to work within a small team to support the delivery of project outputs.
TYPE OF BACKGROUND/EDUCATION PREFERRED:
- Essential:
- Current or recently graduated Post Graduate student in operations research, mathematics, business, management, economics, public administration, public policy, social science, natural science, or similar disciplines.
- Experience in planning and designing research projects, conducting data collection, analyzing quantitative / qualitative data, and presenting results.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
- An interest in military affairs.
- Desirable:
- Graduate level degree work in one of the above subjects
- Statistical analysis, big data analytics, data visualization.
- Knowledge of Modeling and Simulation, programming & coding skills, specialized analytical software.
- Wargaming / Game design.
- Military experience or previous work experience in defence institutions.
