DETAILS OF PROJECT:
The future Intern will supports the ACT Gender Advisor (GENAD) with certain duties and tasks. Their responsibilities may depend on the period of the year that they will be working. Possible duties in direct support of the GENAD include:
- Assisting in providing technical/functional guidance on the integration of gender perspective and gender mainstreaming in ACT work strands (analysis, policy, concept, capability, program, doctrine, procedure, exercise, education & training…).
- Assisting with ACT implementation of Gender-related policies and action plans (AP) coordinated by the GENAD Office (Women, Peace and Security AP, or Sexual Exploitation and Abuse AP, Conflict-related sexual violence Policy), and ACT-related progress reports.
- Aiding in the review, improvement or creation of NATO or ACT gender-related trainings (Advanced Distributed Learnings (ADLs), micro-learning material, ACT cross-functional/branch head trainings, ACT Gender Focal Points training, etc.), part of the Gender in Military Operations (GMO) Discipline / global programming process, or specific ACT trainings.
- Supporting the coordination/work within the NATO Gender community of interest (International Staff – Women, Peace and Security team / IMS and ACO GENAD office / Nordic Centre for Gender in Military Operations (NCGM)/ NATO committee on Gender Perspective (NCGP)) and within the Internal gender network (with ACT Gender Focal Points (GFPs), in HQ SACT HQ, JWC, JFTC and JALLC).
- Furthering improvements and updates of the ACT GENAD office communication tools (newsletters, SharePoint pages, Transnet page, website, articles on ACT connect, etc.).
- Assisting in the organization of gender-related ACT events : ACT GENAD annual conference, International Women’s Day, any other appropriate or needed conferences/events that contribute to ACT objectives and GENAD objectives (NATO festival, NATO challenge, anniversary of UNSCR 1325, gender perspective & Centres of Excellence (COE)…).
- Contributing to Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) actions/projects, as ACT GENAD is a permanent member of the D&I committee.
EXPECTED DELIVERABLE(S):
The expected deliverables will depend on what tasks are assigned during the internship.
TYPE OF BACKGROUND/EDUCATION PREFERRED:
- Current or recent Post Graduate student in gender, in sociology and cultural studies, in humanitarian studies or humanitarian law, in international relations, international affairs, peace and conflict studies.
- It would be desirable for the incumbent to have knowledge of the UNSCR (United Nations Security Council Resolution) 1325 and related Resolutions.
