NORFOLK - Supreme Allied Command Transformation, General Denis Mercier, met with Virginia Senator Mark Warner at the Senator’s Norfolk Office, August 18. This meeting was an opportunity for General Mercier to highlight the strong links between NATO, the city of Norfolk, and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Senator Warner and SACT shared their views on common points of interest including cyber, innovation, and the transatlantic bond. The visit was also an opportunity for SACT to discuss events organized by ACT in the Senator’s elected state, including the Chief of Transformation Conference, the Resilience Event and all the events surrounding the annual Norfolk NATO festival, which takes place every April.
Since Supreme Allied Commander Atlantic’s arrival in 1952, NATO has been part of Hampton Roads community. The command transitioned to Supreme Allied Commander Transformation in 2002, and continues to be NATO’s only home in North America. SACT’s visits with state and local officials increase the communication and strengthen in the relationship with ACT’s host community.
