He was warmly welcomed by the highest authorities of the country, including His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan, for talks regarding cooperation and partnership. The meeting, attended by HRH Prince Faisal Bin Al Hussein and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs-of-Staff Lt. Gen. Mahmoud Freihat, also tackled security developments in the region; the Syrian crisis and the conditions in Iraq and Libya, in addition to regional and international efforts to combat terrorism. General Mercier also met the Prime Minister Mr Hani Al-Mulki, which gave him another opportunity to enhance the relations of the Alliance with Jordan.
The visit to Jordan is a demonstration of the importance of partnerships, which are a part of the answer to what he said during the NATO Transformation Seminar, “in our complex world, no single nation or organization can on its own simultaneously address all threats and challenges.”
This week, Allied Command Transformation, continues work to simplify, optimise and synchronise the processes necessary to defining, establishing and sustaining partnerships through a series of robust workshops that support building stability in the region.
