General Denis Mercier recently visited Finland, a very important partner to NATO. He was welcomed by General Jarmo Lindberg, Commander of the Finnish Defence Forces, in the Karelia Air Command Headquarters, located in Savonia.
During the visit, General Mercier was taken for a flight in a Finnish Air Force F/A-18 Hornet, proving the interoperability of the Finnish Defence Forces with NATO. General Mercier followed up this visit with office calls in Helsinki with the Finnish Minister of Defence Permanent Secretary, Jukka Juusti and the under Secretary of State for Foreign and Security Affairs, Ann Sipilainen, where the key theme of the meetings was to highlight the importance of Finland's partnership with the Alliance.
The participation of Finland in NATO's next major live exercise, Trident Juncture 18, was also discussed. The visit was a great success and will contribute to strengthen the links between Finland and NATO.
