ACT Portals - Hungary
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is a political and military alliance whose primary goals are the collective defence of its members and the maintenance of a democratic peace in the North Atlantic area. It has a military and civilian headquarters and an integrated military command structure. The Alliance brings together 28 member countries from Europe and North America and receives its support through assets and forces provided by each nation. For more information on NATO follow www.nato.int
There are two strategic commands within the NATO structure serving in Europe and North America providing a unique transatlantic link for Political and security cooperation:
Allied Command Operations (ACO) which is based at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in Mons, Belgium. For more information on ACO please follow www.aco.nato.int
Allied Command Transformation (ACT) based in Norfolk, Virginia, USA.
Here at ACT, the only NATO command permanently located in North America, we are leading transformation within the Alliance through concept development and military experimentation with a focus on supporting on-going operations and preparing for the future – the security challenges of tomorrow and beyond.
Let’s start the tour.
The ACT website you're browsing has several useful pieces of information for newcomers that you may want to check. Keep in mind that outside of this page, all the info is written in English language, which is the most used NATO Official Language. All the links will open in new pages, so you won't lose the connection with this starting page when you close the browser window.
The first page you may want to check is the Newcomers' area, a collection of several pages dealing with everything from driving to moving to taxes to employment. Make sure you thoroughly read those pages as they're the collective effort of those who arrived here before you and faced the same issues you might be facing.
Finally we would like to present you someone of your country who is working here in ACT: Colonel Imre Porkoláb, the National Liaison Representative of Hungary here at ACT.
