JOB DESCRIPTION FOR POSSIBLE INTERNSHIP 2019

DIVISION: Capability Engineering and Innovation Division

BRANCH/SECTION: Innovation Doctrine and Lessons Learned Branch/ Lessons Learned Implementation

DETAILS OF PROJECT:

  1. The ACOS Capability Engineering and Innovation (ACOS CE&I) division is responsible for initiating, undertaking, supporting and contributing to the development of emerging and future capabilities across the Doctrine, Organization, Training, Material, Leadership, Personnel, Facility and Interoperability (DOTMLPFI) spectrum through doctrine development and coherence, concept development, operational experimentation, research and technology, solutions development, analysis, and lessons learned implementation in order to address NATO capability shortfalls through Concept Development and Experimentation (CD&E), Research & Technology (R&T) and Research & Development (R&D).
  2. The Doctrine Coherence & Lessons Learned Implementation (IDLL) Branch is the agent to develop and sustain the NATO-wide lessons learned (LL) Capability, and provides a centralized contact point within HQ SACT for advice and coherence on all doctrine development, as well as ensuring coherence and consistency throughout the division.
  3. The Intern will under the guidance of the sponsor and the LL team:
    1. Examine Lessons Learned reports and determine the scope and nature of response from the Strategic Command perspective.
    2. Support the coordination of ACT action bodies to implement report recommendations.
    3. Support the coordination of international action bodies with ACT action bodies to implement report recommendations, when requested.
    4. Support identification and development of Joint Analysis Requirements from non-NATO entities, for both Operations and Exercises.
    5. Support the planning, execution and follow up on the LL training within HQ SACT.
    6. Work with other elements within HQ SACT and the NATO Command Structure to coordinate Lessons Learned Implementation activities. This includes attending Lessons Learned Coordination Team meetings, Lessons Learned Working Group and Steering Group meetings, VTCs, and other forms of coordination.
    7. Liaise and coordinate with International Organizations, NGO, PfP, other than NATO agencies/body and non-NATO Nations through:
      1. Maintaining a constant information exchange flow. Attending the VTC, meeting, conferences, workshops and other activities related to the LL within the vicinity of HQ SACT (no travel).
      2. Support the coordination with all NATO bodies, and in particular with JALLC, the efforts of NATO and non-NATO entities aiming to build and improve the LL capability.
      3. Support the coordination of international action bodies with ACT action bodies to implement report recommendations, when requested.

EXPECTED DELIVERABLE(S):

  1. Ability to assess and provide comments on joint analysis requirements and joint analysis draft reports.
  2. To contribute to the motivation of the LL spirit within HQ SACT.
  3. Provide analytical qualitative input for turning lessons identified into effective lessons learned.
