DETAILS OF PROJECT:
The ACOS Capability Engineering and Innovation (ACOS CE&I) division is responsible for initiating, undertaking, supporting and contributing to the development of emerging and future capabilities across the Doctrine, Organization, Training, Material, Leadership, Personnel, Facility and Interoperability (DOTMLPFI) spectrum through doctrine development and coherence, concept development, operational experimentation, research and technology, solutions development, analysis, and lessons learned implementation in order to address NATO capability shortfalls.
The FUSOL branch is responsible, inter alia, for conducting research to investigate the potential benefit of new technologies for NATO. One of the areas of interest is modelling and simulation.
Under the direction of the FUSOL sponsor, the Intern will have the following principal duties and tasks:
- Examine the state of the art of a particular technology related to the modelling and simulation,
- Evaluate the possible use for NATO of a particular technology related to the modelling and simulation,
- Research and write a report regarding a particular technology, with emphasis on the way ahead,
- Prepare and conduct a demonstration of the selected technology.
The technology selected will likely be akin to:
- Service Oriented Approach;
- immersive environments;
- virtual worlds;
- augmented reality; or
- virtual reality.
An assessment on the potential benefits of the use of the selected future technology for NATO (including current tools, research field, current application, applicability for military functions, and applicability for NATO operations). Proposed way ahead. A small demonstrator of concept.
TYPE OF BACKGROUND/EDUCATION PREFERRED:
Current or recent Postgraduate student in computer science or engineering, or similar. Academic experience in service development, data definition and management, ontologies, immersive environment, virtual worlds, augmented reality, virtual reality and assessment of technologies.
