Major General Ugur Tarçin

MGEN Tarçin was born in Sivas, Turkey, and commissioned as an Army Lieutenant after graduating from the Turkish Military Academy in 1981.
He is a graduate of signals and army aviation schools, and served as a commander and staff officer in different units. After graduating from the Army War College in 1994, he became the Director of the Operations & Training Branch in the 55th Mechanized Infantry Brigade, and an Operations Plan Officer in the Operations Division of the 1st Army.
In 1995, he studied at the U.S. Army Logistics Management College in Virginia, and in the following year worked as an interim IFOR-SFOR Operations Analysis Officer in Mons, Belgium. In 1997, he was assigned as the Exercise and Training Section Chief of the NATO Intelligence Division in Naples, Italy.
After commanding a Mechanized Infantry Battalion; he served as the Director of the Coordination Branch at the Secretary General's Office at the Turkish Land Forces Headquarters, and as the chief aide-de-camp of the President of the Turkish Republic. He also commanded the 3rd Army Aviation Regiment.
He was promoted to Brigadier General in 2006, and served as Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations at the 3rd Army. He then served as KFOR Multinational South Task Force Commander in Kosovo in 2007-2008, and as the executive secretary to the Commander of Turkish Armed Forces until his promotion to Major General in 2010 and appointment as Deputy Chief of Staff - Integrated Resource Management.
He has a master's degree in personnel management and organization. In addition to his UN medal (Kosovo) and two NATO medals (Kosovo and Bosnia-Herzegovina), he has other honors for distinguished service in Turkish Armed Forces.
MGEN Tarçin is married and has two children.
