Major General Salih Sevil was commissioned as an Artillery Officer after graduating from the Military Academy in 1982.

He completed the Helicopter Pilot Basic Course in 1986, after serving in various artillery units.

From 1989 to 1991 he attended the Army Staff College and became a staff officer. He then served as Mec Inf Company Commander and branch chief between 1991-1995 and was posted to Army Staff College as a lecturer. During his assignment at the Army Staff College until 2000, he attended the US Command and Staff College between 1997-1998.

After his service at the Army Staff College, he served as Army Aviation Batallion Commander between 2000-2001, Deputy to European Union Turkish Military Representative between 2001-2004, Army and Aviation Command Chief of Staff between 2004-2005.

After completing National Security College in 2005 he was assigned as 1st Army Aviation Regimen Commander in 2005 and as Land Forces Command Army Aviation Division Head in 2007.

He was promoted to Brigadier General in 2008. After commanding 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade he served as Training Division Head in theTurkish General Staff between 2010-2012.

General Sevil was promoted to Major General in August 2012 and was assigned to Allied Command Transformation as Deputy Chief of Staff Integrated Resource Management.

General Sevil is married with two daughters.
