Joint Forces Training Centre (JFTC) in Bydgoszcz, Poland held the 2012 Coalition Warrior Interoperability eXploration, eXperimentation, eXamination, eXercise also known as CWIX from 4 -22 June 2012.

Nearly one-thousand attended the event; the largest participation to date with nearly 7,694 test interactions within the two week testing period. CWIX testing capability is crucial to NATO and Nations as systems must be tested before deploying in real operations and must meet the certification for NATO Response Force (NRF).

Thirteen NATO Nations and Agencies, along with three Partnerships for Peace (PfP) Nations provided 143 capability configurations. In addition, two additional NATO Nations and two Partners participated remotely from around the globe.

High ranking attendees included General Stephane Abrial, Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (ACT), General Mieczysław Cieniuch, Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces, the NATO Military Committee and over sixty flag level officers from the various Participating Nations attended CWIX VIP Day. "CWIX provides a unique venue that allows experts to come and work together to explore, solve and share potential solutions in anticipation of future operations and to prepare for the most unexpected," said Abrial.

A few of the early CWIX accomplishments from this year include ACT's sponsorship of ten capabilities ranging from Land Command and Control Information System (LC2IS) (NATO) inc 1.1. Also, ACT's work on logistics capabilities to infrastructure and cloud computing. The importance of testing of the LC2IS system is the deployment as the Headquarters Level MIP solution in January 2013.

Afghan Mission Network (AMN) is also an example of the work here for CWIX. The NC3A JCHAT analysts, while testing unplanned server to server federation tests, discovered a solution to a one-way chat problem that has been hampering the forces in ISAF. The solution tested was forwarded to the AMN Change Management Team for immediate inclusion into the network. As quoted by General Abrial, "We have experts representing military and industry here, we have programmers. They all communicate with each other, they exchange experience, information and, what is the most important, they have the possibility to examine if the systems they work with are compatible with each other."

Another very important accomplishment this year is the Tactical Edge Data Solutions (TEDS) Joint Capability Technology Demonstration (JCTD) and related Coalition Warfare Program (CWP) is a combined effort between NATO ACT and the United States, Finland, France, Netherlands and Poland which provide joint data strategy. The TEDS capability demonstrated enhanced Joint and Multinational interoperability with improved data sharing. As this is the last year of this effort, the United States expects to field C2 Core Capability by 2014. NATO is exploring the use of C2 Core Capability or a developmental XML data model based on the testing accomplished in CWIX.

CWIX is steadily gaining command-wide attention as the interoperability testing event providing testing support to ACT, the Afghan Mission Network (AMN) and the Tactical Edge Data Solutions (TEDS) Joint Capability Technology Demonstration (JCTD) and related Coalition Warfare Program (CWP).

CWIX 2013 will begin in September with the Exercise Specification Conference (ESC) that will occur in Paris, France. The ESC is the executive level meeting which sets the framework for the upcoming year.
