The MoC signed by the Estonian Chief of Defence and DSACT on behalf of the Supreme Allied Commander Transformation affirms the intent to work together on a range of activities to strengthen cross-command interaction and sharing, to seek out opportunities (within the limits of national and NATO policies) to exchange information, to identify critical transformation issues and priorities and to co-operate in developing transformation-related studies and workshops. The principal vehicle for improved visibility between the EDF and ACT will be to expand the existing Chief of Transformation Programme of Work and a collaboration catalogue. This will allow both staffs to capitalise on opportunities to discuss key transformational issues in a multinational setting, and to identify possible partners with similar interest, thus advancing joint solutions and development of capabilities.
The NATO Summit was also a leading theme of the meeting in Estonia, where Gen. Bieniek discussed the future cooperation between ACT and Estonia with the MoD Permanent Secretary Mr Mikk Marran and the Commander of the Estonian Defence Forces Brigadier General Riho Terras. DSACT recognised Estonia for the active cooperation in the Nordic and Baltic Sea region. Special attention was paid to the Estonian contribution to current operations, Defence Planning Process, CCD CoE achievements and to exercises in the region. DSACT outlined the HQ SACT main areas of focus following the Chicago Summit: Smart Defence, Connected Forces and the coordination of the capability development, and encouraged his counterparts to analyse thoroughly the outcomes of the Summit in these areas and their impact on the EDF.
During his trip to Europe, DSACT also visited JFTC in Bydgoszcz, where he met with the Commander of the Centre, General Pavel Macko, SVK A, to discuss the future mission and role of the Centre in light of the Chicago Summit, including readiness to support Afghan National Security Forces development and professionalism through a key leader training. He also expressed ACT's appreciation for the quality of work being done within JFTC and assured Commander and staff of ACT's continuous ACT support of their mission.
